Vangelis Ioannou, one of the most renowned Greek sports journalists and sportscasters, will be on the island of Kos as a guest of Phoebus at the 8th 3X3 Basketball Festival, which will take place from July 23 to 27 at Antagora Square. His presence adds a special glamour to the event, which has now become an institution for the local basketball and sports audience. Vangelis Ioannou (born October 27, 1972 in Pyrgos, Ilia) is one of the most experienced and recognizable Greek sports journalists, with a long-standing presence at ERT and a particular identification with the television descriptions of basketball games, both of the Basket League and the Greek National Team. His characteristic voice and his unique style in broadcasts have made him beloved by the sports audience.

A graduate of the Thessaloniki University of Sports and Athletics, specializing in basketball and sports journalism, he continued his studies at the postgraduate level in modern journalism and communication, while currently he is a doctoral candidate at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with the study of television coverage of major sporting events in the digital era. At the same time, he has completed a two-year course of studies in the Sport Management Postgraduate Program of the Institute of Sports Entrepreneurship.

His journalistic career began in the early 1990s. Since 1992, he has worked in newspapers such as "Ethnos", "Eleftheros Typos" and "Fos ton Spors", where he was editor-in-chief for basketball issues from 1998 to 2010. He also served as editor-in-chief of the newspaper "PRESS TIME", while he also worked at the radio station "Radio Thessaloniki". Since 2001, he has been an active member of the ERT journalistic team, with numerous broadcasts of sports events on both television and radio. He has covered top events worldwide and has served in various positions of responsibility. In 2022, he was honored with the Botsis Foundation Journalism Award for his contribution to sports and journalism.

In addition to his professional broadcasts, Ioannou has also stood out for the inventiveness and humorous nature of the nicknames he has given to Greek and international basketball players. Among them: Kill Bill (Spanoulis), Greek Freak (G. Antetokounmpo), Slouki Luke (Sloukas), Saint George Printezis, Nick the Quick (Kalathis), The Elevator (Th. Antetokounmpo), The Exterminator (Mantzaris), Big Papa (Papagiannis), Hellenic Tank (Agravanis), Pistol John (Athinaiou), Plumber (Ghikas), Tyler Time (Dorsey), Cobra (Larentzakis), The Lion of Piraeus (Hackett), Pistoliopoulos (Toliopoulos) and the Twin Towers (Papagiannis/Papapetrou).

Since June 2024, he has been president of the Panhellenic Sports Press Association (PSAT), for the three-year period 2024-2027, confirming his many years of and multidimensional contribution to the field of sports information. Recently, Vangelis Ioannou has been strengthening the journalistic team of athletiko.gr with his presence and signature, offering high-level content, with his knowledge and personal style.
