THE BIOGRAPHY OF "SOFO"

Sofoklis Schortsianitis was born in Tiko, Cameroon. His father is from Greece and his mother is from Cameroon. His first team was Iraklis Kavalas, while his professional career began in the 2000-2001 season with Iraklis. At Iraklis, he made his debut on February 17, 2001 against Panionios. He stayed on the court for 5:45 minutes and managed to score four points with 2/2 two-pointers, collect one rebound and win two fouls. In that game, he made history after becoming the youngest to set foot on the court in the Greek Championship at the age of 15 years, seven months and 25 days (later broken by Giorgos Papagiannis and Lefteris Mantzoukas).
In 2003, he was selected at number 34 in the NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers, but did not ultimately move to the NBA championship. Instead, he spent a year abroad, in the 2003-2004 season, in Cantu, Italy. The following season, he returned to Greece with the jersey of Aris, while from the 2005-2006 season he was acquired by Olympiacos and became one of the most beloved players of the "red and white" fans, having a very good year in performance with great improvement and development in his now exuberant style of play. In 2010, he signed a contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv, with which he reached the Euroleague final in 2011, where he lost to Panathinaikos. That year, he was also named the tournament's best center, after being named in the tournament's top five. With the Israelis, he won two consecutive doubles, in 2011 and 2012.
In the summer of 2012, he returned to Greece for Panathinaikos, with whom he won the double. In the summer of 2013, Panathinaikos did not renew his contract, so he returned to his old team, Maccabi Tel Aviv, with which he became European champion for the first time, in 2014. In the final against Real Madrid, which was decided in overtime, Maccabi won 98-86 and Schortsanitis had nine points and three rebounds in 9:42.
In the summer of 2015, he signed for Red Star Belgrade. After a brief spell with the Belgrade team, he returned to the Greek league for PAOK in November 2015. In December 2016, after six months without a team, he signed a contract with Apollon Patras. Shortly after signing his contract with Apollon, Sofoklis was injured and his contract with the Patras team was terminated. Trikala and Ionikos Nikaias followed.

In the Euroleague He retired with 197 games, 1,654 points (8.4 average), 560 rebounds (2.8), 162 assists (0.8 average), 113 steals (0.6 average) and 69 blocks (0.4 average).

In the Greek Championship He played 239 games, with 1,833 points (7.67 average), 731 rebounds (3.09), 172 assists (0.72), 112 steals (0.46) and 68 blocks (0.28).

With the Men's National Team He won the silver medal at the 2006 World Championship and the bronze medal at the 2009 European Championship, while with the National Youth Team he won two bronze medals in 2002 and 2003, at the EuroBasket and the WorldBasket, respectively.
